You know you've just participated in a meaningless debate if the Republican Speaker of the House doesn't take the time to watch the first engagement to determine the next leader of the GOP. CBS News reports that Speaker John Boehner took a pass on watching last night's South Carolina GOP debate. Instead of watching five Republican hopefuls, Boehner apparently ate steak, drank red wine, and smoked cigarettes at a posh DC steakhouse. I can understand the appeal of going that route over watching the brawl of single-digit candidates, but you'd think Boehner would at least pretend that these five candidates were worth his time.
The biggest winners from last night's debate clearly are the candidates who weren't associated with it.
