Tea Party argues that Romney candidacy will depress turnout

As part of a new effort to derail Romney's nomination for President, a group of Republican activists have just launched NotMittRomney.com to argue that Mitt Romney isn't conservative and isn't electable. On the website they argue that Mitt Romney wouldn't be electable in a general election because Republicans would stay home.

A little known fact: John McCain in 2008 received millions less votes than President George W. Bush did in 2004. Consider the circumstances and the fact that it was 4 years later. Shocking. People wanted hope, and while they were skeptical about the young Obama, they were certain that John McCain provided equally little comfort, so they went for the likeable candidate. Millions less votes. Let that sink in. It wasn’t just an electoral college defeat, but one of a demoralize and ticked off base that refuse to make phone calls, go door-to-door, and donate small donations which gave Obama so much more to work with. Obama even advertised in video games because he was so flesh with cash! With Obamacare taken off the table. With bailouts, TARP off the table. With neither having served in the military. With Romney accepting the tradition “third rail” argument, refusing to talk about social security, medicare, and medicaid. And rest assure, he’ll be labeled as someone who “wants to kill grandma” anyway… what’s his campaign strategy? Where’s the contrast? While one can acknowledge demographic turnout differences between midterm elections and that of Presidential years, it’s impossible to deny that the House Republican’s historic thrust into the majority wasn’t due to the contrast and choice we gave the American people. Something independents and moderates alike appreciated. Obama will be better funded, use the office he holds to tour the country on the taxpayer’s dime and soak up as much media as possible, and steal conservative lines Romney won’t even embrace. Nominee Romney spells trouble in some analysts’ minds.
