Mitt Romney has formally announced that he's running for President. This is not breaking news in any way, as we've known he was running for a while now. But what is interesting to me is that he leads off his announcement email with an attack on President Obama around joblessness and foreclosures:
When President Obama took office, the economy was in recession. He made it worse. And he made it last longer. Three years later, foreclosures are still at record levels. Three years later, the prices of homes continue to fall. Three years later, our national debt has grown nearly as large as our entire economy. It breaks my heart to see what's happening in this country.Romney then makes one of the greatest leaps in the history of logic and tries to convince the recipients of his email that giving him a donation will solve America's economic problems. As a Democrat it is worrying that Romney has identified joblessness and the high foreclosure rate as the first, best avenue of attack on President Obama. Today's poor jobs report certainly won't help dissuade Romney from this course. I don't think Romney is a credible messenger against Obama when it comes to economic recovery, as he is a Wall Street figure and a corporate raider known for laying off workers. But the message itself could be picked up by other Republicans as well and a weak economy is likely President Obama's greatest vulnerability.
